Dr. K.K. Talwar stands as a prominent figure in cardiothoracic surgery in India, with over four decades of dedicated service in the field. The Padma Bhushan, the NAMS Ayrabhat Award, the B. C. Roy Award, the Norman Alpert Award, the Sujoy B. Roy Memorial Investigator Award, and the Searle Award are only a few of the honors bestowed upon Dr. Talwar.

He pioneered the use of implanted Cardioverter & Defibrillator Therapy in India in 1995. After pioneering the use of CRT treatment in the United States, he was the first to bring it to India in the year 2000.

Since 1997, when he first introduced ICD treatment to India, he has held a place in the Limca Book of Records. Endomyocardial biopsy was first performed at AIIMS by Dr. Talwar in 1986. Because of his work, AIIMS now has the ability to diagnose and evaluate patients with tropical cardiac disease.
