Dr. Kewal Kishan Talwar is a highly respected cardiologist in India with over 50 years of experience.
He has successfully performed South Asia's first Implantable Cardioverter-Defibrillator (ICD) surgery, a device that prevents sudden heart stoppage, and this achievement was listed in the Limca Book of Records in 1997.
He also introduced Cardiac Resynchronization Therapy (CRT) in India, another advanced treatment for heart failure, which is also mentioned in the Limca Book.
Dr. Talwar received the Padma Bhushan award, one of the country’s top civilian honors, for his contributions to medicine.
He has worked in some of India’s top medical institutions, including as the Head of Cardiology at AIIMS, the Director of PGIMER, and as Chairman of the Cardiology Department at Max Hospital.
Apart from this, he has worked to make heart rhythm problems (arrhythmias) a specialized field in India, and also started the Heart Failure and Heart Transplant Program at AIIMS, helping many patients with severe heart conditions.
Dr. Talwar has received many awards, including the Dr. B.C Roy Award, which is the highest award for doctors in India.
He was also the President of the National Academy of Medical Sciences and is a Fellow of the Indian National Science Academy
Dr. Kewal Kishan Talwar is a well-known researcher, and he has written over 240 articles, 270 abstracts, and 15 chapters in medical books and journals as well.
