Dr. Ashok Sarin attended the All India Institute of Medical Sciences in New Delhi. Then he trained under Dr. Mary Mcgeown at the prestigious Belfast City and Royal Victoria Hospital, Queen's University in Belfast, Northern Ireland, United Kingdom. He is well-versed in both living donor and cadaver kidney transplantation, hemodialysis, and CAPD for treating kidney disease.

The Indian Society of Nephrology, the Delhi Nephrology Society, the North Zone Society of India, and the Association of Physicians of India are just some of the groups he belongs to. In addition, he leads the Delhi Nephrology Society as its president.

• From 1982 to 1997, he worked as a senior consultant in nephrology at Moolchand and Kolmet Hospitals in New Delhi.
• From 1977 to 1981, he worked as a senior resident in nephrology and internal medicine at Queen's University Belfast (United Kingdom).
• In 1975 and 1976, he worked as the Senior Registrar in Nephrology and Medicine at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences in New Delhi.
